It is NOT the color it is the SPECIES. Yellow pine is different than other pine. The natural resins in yellow pine make it very water resistant. Make sure its is "Southern Yellow Pine".

If you get the Model # of your motor and go to that site the Manual is FREE !!!!

Wow I had forgotten how much I hated painting, especially half assed painting. Well she is looking better than she did with the old paint, hopefully I can get her right side up tomorrow and get the topsides done. I wished I could say she is gonna make an ok ten footer but I think it'll be more like a fifty footer.

Woodonglass:
I was referring to the color in regards to aesthetic appeal not as a reference to species. Sorry I should have written that better. I believe we are talking about Pinus Palustris or what we call longleaf pine here in east TX. Does that sound about right?

FREE is my favorite 4 letter word! I'm headed there now, it will give me some good reading tonite!

Hmm I'm only finding the manuals for $30 no mention of even a free owners manual. Am I missing something?

For your motor manual, what you want is the OMC factory service manual. They are awesome. The Seloc or Clymer manuals suck. I don't know the specific year of your motor to try to look for the exact right one but this is the general idea http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989...90522783162QQptZMotorsQ5fManualsQ5fLiterature They are worth the money. Trust me.

I have good news and bad news on those seats you linked. I put those same seats in my Jupiter and they were great. They looked good, were fairly durable, had nice plastic bases and are tough to beat for the price. However, the 10" bases were a little high for my 16' Jupiter and I ended up sitting higher than the windshield. I would imagine this would be even worse on your 14. You may be better off with pedestal mounted seats on 8" or shorter pedestals.

Hmm I really like the look of those type of seats and since I may do a bit of boat camping on it the lounge part is especially appealing. Would it be all that difficult to undo the vinyl around the base and cut them down? I was originally thinking 10" to the top of the seat pad would do good but I haven't measured yet since I haven't nailed down what I'm gonna use for the deck yet.

yeah I think the manual is gonna have to wait til I come up with a bit more spare cash. Mine is an 86 28 SPL electric start only. I am curious though if this engine charges the battery or just runs the ignition off of it until the battery is out of juice? I dont think it will be a problem since I will be using an Optima yellow top but it would be nice to know since I would like to put a stereo in the boat at some point and add some LED lighting here and there.

You might be ok with those seats, it says the bases are 8" high, I think I went with 8" posts on my seats in the Falcon and they worked out great and Im 6'2".

Interesting. I would have assumed they were the same as the BassPro branded (still Wise seats) ones I got. Of course now when I go to the BassPro site it only lists an overall height, not just a base height. The overall is 2" shorter though on those Gander Mountain seats so you may be ok! You can't really cut the bases down. They are plastic and have supports and screw mounts and what not molded in so it's not like you can just dissassemble them, hack 'em down, and put it back together. (bad description but trust me, it would not be advisable to try to shorten them)

Hmm well I think I will look around for a used set and see what I can do with them. If nothing else maybe I can get the fold down mechanism and seat pads and just make bases. Or at least do some test fitting before I cough up a few hundred bucks. I'm kinda tall too (6') and was a little worried about that low of a seat, sounds like it will be okay though.

Anybody have any pointers on removing the old registration and and starcraft stickers? I even tried sandblasting them and it only made them nice and black again!

Just a quick up date. I have officially decided to just polish out the topsides and only paint the bottom and deck. I did however find a nifty trick for getting the rubrails back in. A small taclk hammer and a blunt paint scraper work AWESOME!! Just start the rubrail in the track and gently tap the remaining lip into place. Its a little time consuming but its easy work. A little lite oil would make it easier still I imagine but it works good without and doesnt make a mess.

Pics of the progress coming soon

Sand blasting sucks! But it does take the paint off quick.
