I recently inherited my granfather's 73 Starcraft boat. It was in need of a lot of work outside and in. I live on the coast of NC and have always wanted a small boat to take around the sounds and waterway. This is my first attempt at anything like this.

I first put on two coats of white paint on the exterior. I then took out the three teak benches. The interior had major rust and the paint was old. I completely sanded it all down.

My next step was were I was confused. I wanted to make sure the rust problem would not re-occur and I wanted something self-sealing to apply. I decided to go with the herculiner bedliner kit. It came out quite nicely. I'm just hoping it will hold up.

Has anyone ever used this before on a boat?

I included some pics to show the progress. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I like what you have done. I was thinking of doing the same thing but, Say it rains or you catch a good wave, or heck just wash the boat. ow will the water drain down the center of the boat. that is my only concern

Yeah, I thought about that, and it was a big consideration. I'm hoping that it won't be too big of a problem. I figure if I hit a wave on the water it has no where to go anyway. No type of a bilge pump onboard.

Yep - pull the plug and get moving. Just be sure to keep an eye on your course while you're watching the water level go down at the stern. I know a guy who ran his little duck boat right up into the frag doing that. No harm done, but it's a hilarious story I never miss the chance to tell. :p

:) HELLO

Do you know what MODEL Starcraft this boat is (maybe from your registration?). I have one just like it that has never been registered (farm pond boat) and I would like to get on public waters. I live in NC too.
Please if you can help me identify the model so I can fill out the registration application.

Thanks much!

did you do a leak test before doing the herculiner? im thinking of doing the same thing just to add to the life of the boat, i figure a nice seal on the inside should prevent leaks

better than going rivet to rivet with some epoxy...idk my boat doesnt have any real holes, just brought it home today

Welcome to iboats.

PLEASE do not bring up posts from years ago unless you are the original poster. The original poster has not even been back in two years so this question will not be answered.

Use the search feature and you will see MANY threads about bed-liner and why people do not use it.
