Re: '72 Johnson 50 HP...carb cleaning.

I know my high speed jets are located on the carb bowl drain plug, but where are my idle speed jets? Do I remove the small brass cylinder that extends into the venturi of the carb or just spray and blow in it? What about the idle adjustment screws, found out thiese are needles when you unscrew them all the way out...what do I do with these to clean?

The idle jets are at the top of the carb. There will be a plastic retainer on the brass adjustment needle that will require replacement. You'll need two, and get an extra or two as well. Lots of times I get lucky and soak my carbs good, then blow them out with carb cleaner and then with compressed air. If that doesn't get them clean and clear, then removing the welch plug may be required, if that carb has one. I can't remember.
Good luck,
