At what RPM should the motor idle around? This is my first boat and a bit of a fix'er up'er but motor seems to be strong. Carbs just rebuilt before I bought it but it sounds to be idling very high. Also trying to find some info on what routine maintenance should be done? Would like to perform all this before I take it out for the first time.

Idle should be about 750RPM's, give or take 50RPM's...there's an idle adjustment screw on that middle carb that you can change to lower those RPM's. It's not healthy for your lower unit/gearbox to be shifting into gear at elevated RPM's. You can buy a Yamaha Repair Manual for your specific motor that would be very helpful for you. Probably need to change water pump kit and lower unit oil. Google: Yamaha Maintenance Tips Andy, for instructions with photos for several repair maintenance procedures. Good Luck!
