Hi All- New to this posting stuff, so please bear with. thanks for the great info I've found on this board, it's been a great help to me on my various boat restoration projects. I've always found what I've needed on old threads, but now I'm stumped.
My 20 horse Johnson, (1968 fd22m) is finally running well, and nearly complete. My last problem is with the shift linkage. First, it wouldn't stay in gear, so I replaced the cable, and then the clutch dog. It worked great in the tub; the dog was definitely worn. In the river, though, it began to act up again. I'm not getting full range of motion after the shift arm. I see the arm move through it's entire arc, but it seems that the shaft that goes under the powerhead is not rotating fully, as if it is not connected firmly to the shift arm. there is a zerk at the end of that shaft, and it doesn't appear to be rotating as much as the shift arm. Could this shaft be slipping?
If so How to repair??? I did tighten the screw on the clasp, but it didn't solve the problem.
Any ideas??
