I guess they thought the hull needed to be thicker/re-Inforced in the back .. You could go back with ply if you want to keep cost down ... Just tab and seal it in really well and it should last plenty long .. Your call on how much you want to spend ...
Maybe your boat yard would have some coosa cut offs they would sell cheap ...
Is the transom wood already glued together ? I would stagger the joint ....

Thanks Sam for the feedback. I haven't decided on how I am going to attach the transom pieces. I might put a spline in it. On the bottom there will be 2 pieces, I am just going to leave space for the drain hole, I don't have enough for one piece across the bottom anyway.

Buck.

Well not getting anything done today because I am fighting a bug and hoping it doesn't turn into full blown flu, I don't think it will, feeling a little better today. I did get some work done this week, I have the foam boards trimmed to be templates for the floor and front storage area. The closest Home Depot doesn't carry a good selection of exterior plywood but the one close to my work does. I picked up 19/32 BCX for the floor, storage and stringers and they even had 1/4 BCX ply so I can redo the hull with the 6" strips glassed down to the bottom for strength. I was hoping to cut plywood today but taking it easy so I don't end up in bed for a few days. I have had a chance to get caught up looking at other builds, thanks everyone for the inspiration!

Thanks Arch! I am glad I took it easy yesterday, got rid of the chills and feeling normal today other than the allergies, I can deal with that.

Meant to ask what you guys think of the 19/32 BCX plywood for the deck. The original was 1/2 ply. There are no fore to aft stringers, just side to side. The main deck is 8' by 45"at the widest. I don't think I needed to bump up to 3/4, well 23/32, no such thing as 3/4 ply anymore. I am planning on pour in foam, I have recently realized that the tilt trailer mechanism will come in handy when I get around to doing that! Probably the only time I will use the tilt part of the trailer, lol.

All of my boat is built with bcx. Just need to seal voids from cuts with eeepppoooxxxyyy and fill with pb. Some if not most of my bcs is really clean with no voids.
My local hdblow doesn't stock acx. I used the 5/8" for my deck. Also glass the underside. My platform is like 7' wide though. Don't care I overbuilt for the fat people when they come here from fla.

Thanks KC, will definitely fill the voids and glass the underside. I did look through the stack, on the outside this ply looks closer to ACX but I will see when it gets cut up. I am also going to round over the edges to make it easier to get the glass to lay down, no worries about working with the wood, done a lot of that, first time with glass, hope to get more on the boat than on me and the ground!

Good luck with the last sentence. Buy and have available lots of acetone and rubber gloviies! It gets easier as you move along.

Although I injest a lot of happy myself living in Florida, my allergies are going crazy because of this Florida weather, so much rain in December, now record heat drying things out, I have not had these allergy problems this early in the year. On the other hand I do like to talk to relatives or friends up north and ask them to speak louder because it is hard to hear them because the a/c kicked on!

Well I am so overdue for an update. I have been absent for a while and I apologize for that. I hope you are all doing well and are healthy. I have had time to work on the boat! Several home projects and equipment projects (I am a drummer, percussionist) have also happened but one of those home projects helped the boat project. I took down the screen over the patio behind the house, 35' x 10'. The patio was always such a mess and needed to be rescreened, now I have a level and stable surface to work on the boat!

I continue to cut more old glass edges with the multi tool. I am trying to get it down so I produce less mess when I do get to the grinding. The last piece of wood that needed to be cut out was what the bow eye went through, not much wood was left. There is now NO old wood left on the hull.

I have cut most of the plywood for the floor and stringers. I am doing what was done originally but better. I am going to put the 1/4" ply strips back down on the hull bottom but will make sure it is sealed and adhered down properly. I had mentioned earlier that there are no fore to aft stringers, just side to side. The old stringers were dimensional lumber and didn't even go to the hull floor, I will use plywood and probably put in 4 or 5 instead of just the 3 original. I will also be adding foam to each section to make it stronger and add flotation.

Of all the musician memes I have seen, I have not seen that one, thanks KC for sharing, that is awesome! When I played on cruise ships a long time ago one of the cheesy magicians would ask for a drum roll and I would have to throw a dinner roll up on stage, ugh! Glad the fellow musicians were great to play with, the cheese factor with some of the "entertainers" was off the charts.
