Re: 65 Lonestar questions

I do know enough about all engines to know that the Rude is totally hammered crap, the Merc that I got is in great shape and I want to make it work with this boat instead of pouring money into a old worn out engine

Check out what I said in post #17 of this thread.
That is the only way I know of to connect the steering cable to your merc.

Re: 65 Lonestar questions

Well, since you last heard from me I have learned quite a bit, but still am clueless in alot of ways I suppose, I have gone in a different direction, and changed courses completely, now I have traded the 35 merc(whick was a 89 by the way) for a 97 50hp johnson also a longshaft motor, after getting some aluminum plates welded together to use as a wedge plate, I now have the Johnson purring like a kitten on the back, had to spend a few more bucks on the trade and set up but I believe it will be worth it, and from what I can tell this motor is going to scoot this thing across the water with a quickness give me a few more days to do some clean up on it and Ill post some new pics with the beast on the back

So heres where Im at. So far, I got the boat home, and took all the chrome trim and accessories off and pressure washed it good, to get it ready for paint, thinking of going blue on top and white on the bottom again. My only concern is that I still havent put it in the water, and Im worried that my jack plate might be mounted to high, guess Ill have to just wait till I put her in

The AV plate above the prop should be even with to about an inch above the keel.
