65 hp bottom end

just wondering a few things about the motor for one when the bottom end is off can it be manually shifted into geer and out also where to find the year also brought bottom end in for repair still doesnt go into gear

You can find year of motor from serial number<br /><br /> http://www.marineparts.com/partspages/techhelp/tech15.htm site has cross references from serial # to year
