I was going to check reed valves as well…
Excuse me for the poor explanation.
Reed valves look fine to me from outside. I am not going to take it off…

Tomorrow 1 5/16 socket will arrive and I am removing flywheel. Very slow but progressing…

Thank you very much for all the advice!
Your planning on rebuilding this engine but you didn't have a 5/16 socket already? Are you sure you are able to do this? I mean maybe you just broke your only one you had or maybe you sold all your tools in a love last month, I guess I don't know every situation at hand?

??-----The powerhead must be removed from exhaust housing for this job.
You can tell that in the pic, you could see a table under it and a roll of duct tape. So I knew it was off. Some still very strange things are going on here. I'm not sure if there isn't another person involved with this ? The waiting on the 5/16 socket has me a bit confused as to what's going on.

I am very new to this and the socket I borrowed from my colleague was too small to remove flywheel. My colleague is having a family issue so I need to work on my own for a while.
Luckily I found another guy who has a hoist, so I just went ahead and remove powerhead with flywheel on. That’s why flywheel is still on the powerhead.

I only had a quick help from a person to hoist the powerhead. Before removing the powerhead, I didn’t have a proper socket to remove flywheel (the socket that I borrowed from my colleague was too small…) Any advice is really appreciated. Thank you.

I wish I had all the necessary tools like you guys at hand, but I am in the US as an expat only for a few years. So, please excuse me for some strange stuff (language, lack of tool, etc)

The 1-5/16" socket for flywheel.-----You will also need a thin wall 5/16"-12 point socket for rod bolts.--Proper puller for flywheel using 3 bolts 5/16-NF thread.

This one is important. When I was newer to some of this stuff I used the wrong puller and broke my flywheel. So use a puller with the threaded bolts.

Good to know ! What do you mean by wrong puller? I have a puller for 3 bolts. The bolts that came with the puller didn’t have the appropriate thread. I will head to a store to get grade 8 bolts (not grade 5 to be on the safe side).

Sounds like you have the right puller.
If you use the 3 holes on the top of the flywheel you will be fine. It’s not a good idea to pull from the perimeter of the flywheel. In my opinion grade 8 is not necessary.

Yea you have the correct one. I used a three jaw puller and pulled from the outside edges of the flywheel. It snapped a corner off of it.

I see. I tried pulling off the flywheel just now, but it was not going to come off. I didn’t want to force it too much, so I stopped. Maybe should I tap the thick center bolt (I don’t know how to call it) on the puller?

Have you soaked it with penetrating oil? You can also put a little heat up there, I personally wouldn't use a torch, but a heat gun to heat the flywheel especially towards the center combined with penetrating oil and the puller should get the job done.

I think when I pulled mine I used my impact wrench on the puller. Are you just trying to pull it with a wrench/breaker bar?

I just sprayed penetrating oil. I will let it soak overnight tonight. I tried impact wrench earlier before putting penetrating oil and no luck. I hope the flywheel comes off tomorrow ! Thank you very much for your precious advice !!!

Yes you can tap on the puller bolt and it does help. It sounds like you know not to bang and the flywheel it’s self. I can’t say I have never tapped on a flywheel but it was just light taps around the shaft only.
You will get it off.

Penetrating oil / heat are NOT required.-------You have to give the center bolt a bump with a hefty hammer to pop flywheel off the locking tapers !

You use the three hole thread rod or bolts into them then you use your center stud on puller to force against the center crank end your talking about

Flywheel’s still not popping out yet.

As penetration oil, I have been applying WD-40, but it seems PB Blaster has more penetration potent. I am tempting to get one if I cannot pop the flywheel tomorrow.

If you're on that puller with an impact wrench it's hard to imagine the flywheel not coming off. Are you going too easy on 'er?

Pb is way better than wd for penetrating, better still is Kroil.
