I am working on restoring a classic '60 Merc 300 for a classic '66 13 Whaler. The 300 has been in a barn for over 10 years and supposedly serviced/rebuilt before it was put away, but on initial couple of hours hooking up to a battery there is no sign of life from the old original controls electronically....no choke/start etc. I then disconnected the electric start and tried pull starting but after a few pulls it is apparent there is no inclination to fire(btw...I see melted enamel or whatever that would be the stator or coil right ...brown stuff dripping down inside the head).

Haven't got any further running out of daylight but I did find a '64 Merc 350 listed locally that said the water had gotten the best of the lower and the rewind was broken but all intact for $125. Finally my question for now....are a lot of parts compatible with the '60 300 and the '64 350....enough that I should pick it up as a parts motor?

I really love the look of this white-cloud Keikaufher Thunderbolt and want to restore it if possible and know it will be a perfect match for my '66 Whaler.

Thanks,
Tim
