Hey Guys,

I have an Evinrude 6hp 1968 model (I think).

Model # 6802C-E07595.

Does this unit have a thermostate? and is it located in the head?

Thanks
Travis

Welcome to iboats. :)

I'd answer your question, but then all you'd learn is the answer to one question. I'd much rather send you to johnson.com and tell you to navigate through their website to Parts & Accessories where you'll find Engine Diagrams in the Literature section. Your answer lies there, and yes it's a 1968.

As a side note, overheating is rarely caused by a thermostat.

Travish if your running hot it is more then likely the Stat or the Water pump. Both afordable to replace. Might as well replace both

Here is the Link Willy was talking about to view diagrams of your engine.

http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=e

I attached the Power head picture for you and the lower unit diagram.

Impeller is #16
Stat is # 4

When you say its running how how so? How long since your impeller was replaced?

Re: 6 hp fisherman running hot

Thanks,

You guys have a great website. I can't believe I haven't found it before now.

The motor is one that has not been run in years. I got it out last night and cranked it in a barrel. I checked the temp of the cylinder wall and it was 170 or 200 degrees after just a few minutes. So I decided to put in a pump but was not sure about a thermostat. My manual didn't say anything about a therm. It is a Clymer manual

Thanks again.

THat is running pretty hot.. I would replace pump and if still issues look at replacing the stat.
