You will first need to remove the powerhead, drop the lower unit and inspect the pump. Sounds like alot of work but it is really not. You will likely need an impeller, especially if it has been a couple years. If the impeller housing is scored or damaged, replace it. Same goes for the impeller plate. Grooves or scoring will cause air pockets in the pump causing an overheat. In the water pump kit you will also get an o ring for the top of the driveshaft, be sure to replace this and re grease the splines of the shaft with marine grease. Replace the grommets at either end of the water line, and be sure not to pinch them when installing. Ill post a link that may help. Let us know if you need any help. Good luck.
