So, my tilt went out for lifting the motor, down still worked so I suspected the relay. There were two so I switched them and sho nuff up worked.

Now the problem, all the parts diagrams I look at show this relay for a 50TLRB

But this is what I have, (I like the fuse)

The only marking on the old relay is, AR 502 which in a search pulls up

Which looks just like the fuse and prongs I have

The motor Looks like a TLRB, it Quacks like a TLRB but I'm starting to worder could it be some sort of Frankenstein motor?

Perhaps someone switched to parts that they had on hand or readily available.-----Done all the time.------With wiring diagram you can return to Yamaha bits.-----Yamaha assembly is $192.-----OMC relays are $17 each.-----Perhaps that is why it was modified.

I believe your right. Having just ordered a relay from the local auto parts store for $13. On closer inspection, what I thought was original wiring was actually spliced in. Looks like that same relay is used in a lot of cars. At worst, I'm out 13 bucks

Mercury offered a trim and tilt relay modification for those motors that were made for Mercury by Yamaha. Branded as Mercury models. As noted, some changed to the Mercury style of relays in lieu of staying with the Yamaha relay assembly. Seems to be what you have.

The Yamaha relay is an assembly of two relays within one housing. You can't see them individually.

There are some very entertaining motor experts on google / u-tube.-----One guy was driving dowels out of a Johnson V-4 block in the wrong direction.----Then in another video he repeated the mistake on a V-6.------But in general it gives you the confidence to " have a go at it "

It is because people are incapable of listening. I tried explaing to some people that the Yamaha is a 2 relay system, even with the wiring diagram I was told I didn't know what I was talking about. Now they find it on Google and it's the gospel. Google is the bible of the parts tosser.
