Hi everyone. I’m having problems with an electrical draw on my 50 hp force by Mercury. With the 8 pin harness disconnected there are 2 small wires hook together at the selonoid that spark when rubbed on main power cable on solonoid . I believe I tracked the one asking for power going to cds box. Can anyone tell me if that should always be powered or if that’s my problem.

You should repost this in the Force forum, and provide the year of the engine. Most CDI units run off the stator, and do not require battery power, some use battery power when cranking, and some use battery power all the time.

The 12 volt battery is not used to make spark at the sparkplugs.------We can not see what solenoid is installed on your motor at this time.----Wiring on motors is often a mess when a novice starts poking around.---Smoke coming from parts can be expensive.

I meant voltage regulator not cdi box. Pics won’t upload but regulator was burnt. New regulator and now more draw from red wire on regulator

A burnt voltage regulator almost always means it is bad. A good VR should not draw any current. It sounds like you have some other issue.

I put new one voltage regulator on. Used it all weekend. No more draw from red wire on regulator. Charged at 14 v. battery stayed up
