50 hp evinrude cooling problem

My friend has a 77 50hp evinrude that he just got out of the shop. he had the impeller changed and took it out to the lake and it started dying after wot. he put muffs on it in his drive and started it up. the engine is leaking between the 2 halves of the upper and lower unit. the edges of the 2 units do not align up the are misaligned by about a 1/8th of an inch. i do not know anything about evinrudes only mercurys, he wants me to help him, what should i look for to fix this. the shop that put the pump in is now closed.<br />tks,<br />Darrel

What you described won't hurt anything. Are you positive its overheating and not dying from some other reason.

i would think that the shop should fix it, but if they are closed then it's probably because of their obvious shotty work. either way, get a book for it first, it's save you time and money in the long run. make sure those copper water tubes are in seated in the water pump, if its not the water pump will just pump it into that area. good luck
