The thermometer on my deck reads -5C. Cold enough to start breaking things that have water in them.
I hope you other SK boaters had the mind to drain the water out of your boats last night. I saw a lot of boats coming back from the local lakes yesterday as guys were getting some weekend fishing in.

I'm sorry, I must have misread your post. Hahah....it's funny but I almost believed you to say it was "-5" as in MINUS, buwahahaha. Isn't that funny how the eyes can play tricks on you. Whew.

Ummm....you do know that one can move further south to live, right?

I think he means a canadian -5, not a real -5 ;)

Yeah, they have some funked up system up there. He did say -5"C". Whatever that is. All I know is 0C = 32F, I think... Beyond that, I'm lost......

Water has been so low for so long this year I might have to boat until there's ice hangin from the bow just to make the season worthwhile! Even the fishin has been grumby

You should have come up here, we have plenty of water in the main lakes. Fishing, well, that's another story....

Holy moly! I was swimming in the lake yesterday!

There were 3 boats out last night still pulling water skiers with their running light on after sunset. Kinda stupid if you ask me but nothing I can do about that.

Hey Ricohman you should move to balmy southern Ontario, we haven't gone below +5 yet:)
(that's 41 degrees to those on the "old" system ;) ). LOL

My thermometer doesn't read anything below 70 degrees "old system". Anything below that and I just refuse to read it. Now, we ARE talking water temps here, right? Because it would just be plain crazy talk if you meant air temps....heh, heh.

When I lived in Michigan (many moons ago) I would try to ski as early as April and as late as September ... no dry suit. Some years it worked out. Some years sucked the manhood right outta' ya', FAST! :D

Down here in TN now I still have the "Memorial Day to Labor Day mentality" so it's kind of a nice "surprise" each year when I can take the boat out in March and October (could really go out year round).

We do that all the time ;) 1/2 hour after sunset is the law here, and when you get the best water for skiing/barefooting. We were skiing sat and sunday, but wearing short suits.

These folks were in swim suits and the temp was about 50.

If you find it comfortable to be IN the water under low light conditions is up to you,. I myself do not see things IN the water very well once the sun goes down which is also why I slow down after sunset. Would surely hate myself for hitting a swimmer or skier that was in the water after sunset in low light conditions that I couldn't see. But that's just me I'm sure others feel different.

Actually, it looks like I was wrong - it is 1 hour after sunset here (MN).

Water skiing and similar acts are prohibited between one hour after sunset to sunrise of the following day

It may be legal but is it smart? I look at from a safety standpoint. Including myself there are many others that have problems with vision in low light levels. Does anyone really want to put themselves or others into a situation that may cause an injury? Wont find me in the water after dark unless it's a protected swim area.

But then one wont find me jumping through the ice to go swimming either. Not joining the Polar Bear Club!

Sure, its smart. Its the driver/spotters job to get back to you if you go down. Like anything else, what seems crazy to one person seems perfectly normal to the next. I'm guessing you don't downhill ski at 50mph either ;)

Well I guess we'll just have to disagree and leave it at that. I tend to error on the side of caution and I don't alway trust those around me. For instance I lost my eldest brother 41 years ago in a motorcycle accident were he was hit from behind while stopped at an intersection. Time of day was sunset. To this day I still get nervous when there is a motorcycle in front of me on the hiway.

No I don't snowski, snowmobile, iceskate or bobsled. Don't like the cold. Did use to waterski before the legs gave out so have fun with it just keep in mind there are those out there that don't see so well in the dark.

To stay on topic it's 66 degrees, overcast and the winds are light. Think I'll go fishing before the coldfront comes through.
