Hey men I have a problem with my Bayliner 2150. I bought this boat in July and basically inherited the issue. To catch you all up after buying this
boat I noticed when tried to advance the throttle the boat would die. After restarting it would smell really rich. So I figured the choke was messing
up on it. After finding the electric choke setup wrong and the terminals corroded I had alievated that problem. Then a couple weeks later I took it
out and found that when I went to WOT after about 30 seconds to a minute it would lose power until it would backfire through the intake(running it
too lean) and would decelerate to an idle, or shutdown. If I caught it early enough I could pull the throttle back to about 2500 rpm and the boat would run just fine.
I took it home and removed the fuel strainer/filter. It was full of huge chunks of rust: like water had sat in the filter over the winter and rusted the fillter element strainer. I'm telling you there is no way the chucks could have come from the aluminum tank. Not only does aluminum not
rust but they simply were to big to fit through the lines. I changed out the strainer and took it back out to no avail. It ran fine below 3000 rpm but leans out and backfires through the intake if I didn't pull out of the throttle when I started loosing rpm.
I took it back home and decided it must be a fuel flow issue. So I changed out the fuel pump(man was that a nightmare...you can't get a OMC 5.8 liter fuel pump anymore...according to the dealer they are obsolete. I went to JEGS and found that Edelbrock makes a manual pump that is marine style,
dual baffle...it's model# 1725(which doesn't require an external regulator). The issues were the line port did not line up and the fitting size was 3/8 npt instead of factory 1/4 npt. I bought reducers and manufactured a new inlet line out of stainless. Took it back to the lake and found that
it runs great as long as you don't run over 3500rpm. As soon as you go to WOT it sounds like it misfires then backfires through the intake. Could
something be clogging up the secondary jets or is this an ignition or timing issue. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
