Does anyone know how much higher the Vortec 5.7L is versus the pre-vortec GM 5.7 1988-1995 (s/n 0F_____ thru 0F_____)?
I’m looking to replace my pre-Vortec, and would consider a Vortec if it would fit (under the deck engine cover).

Only difference possible would be dependent on what intake manifold and carburetor. Otherwise the motors are the same.

Yes.... that’s exactly what I’m looking for.... the difference going from my Rochester Quadrajet 4-barrel to the Vortec (higher intake manifold?) and I believe they use a 2-barrel..?

It is easy to find Vortec drawings.... but any assumption as to which intake and which carburetor is dependent on what you choose, they have several models, 2 BBL, 4BBL, and EFI.

You can find dimensional drawings of everything except pre-vortec here.

if you put a 1995 or earlier SBC next to a 1996 or later SBC (vortec headed) and measured the data points, they would be the same.

now depending if you buy a low rise manifold, medium rise manifold, high-rise manifold or use a spacer, that may change the height of your spark arrestor. however assume both are stock supplied motors with 4-barrels, the top of the carb opening is in the identical location on both.
