5.7 LX Engine Losing Spark Help!

Hello
Here's my problem i have a 1996 mercruiser 5.7 LX thats keeps losing spark
checked voltage at the coil and it's 12 volts.when engine is turned over it will
spark a couple of times and that's it turn off the key and try it again it does the same thing any info would be great thanks Bill

Unplug the ignition control module and see if all the terminals are clean.

Are you saying, when you have no spark you still have voltage at the coil ?

Have seen these modules get water in them and cause erratic action. I have pulled the covers off,lettum dry,silicon seal them good and hope it works!

If you have an Auto Store around that will test the module take the cap off pull the module and have it tested. Autozone will do it for free.

cmoore, that is not an ignition module inside a Merc distributor, and I doubt any auto parts store can fix the real module. It's a Mercruiser specific part and not automotive.
