5.7 EFI 2001 - clicking and

ANY HELP WITH SUGGESTIONS ARE APPRECIATED
I have a 5.7 EFI Mercruiser and hear intermittent but ongoing clicking or ticking at 2600 RPM and above. Otherwise, it runs well. The clicking or ticking comes from the top of the motor's center between the carburetor and the drive belt. I have a video but cant seem to post it to the site.

The fuel filter water separator was recently changed. The spark plugs and wires were changed three years ago and have 20 hours of operation.

Listened to it 3 times and my old ears cannot hear anything I would be worried. I'm sure it's there but I just can not hear it

Thanks so much. I will start by spraying some T-9 marine lubricant on the inside of the belts.

Might be the belt but would take belt off and see if tensioner pulley and accessories trim smoothly

it was the tensioner/idler pulley which was worn and had bits of rubber embedded in the grooves from the last belt. Thanks a ton for the direction!

It sounds like the ticking could be from the valve train, loose components, or an exhaust leak. Check the valve lifters, ensure all parts are secure, and inspect the drive belt and exhaust manifold.
