5.0MPI Bravo III impeller change

ok, maybe a dumb question, but can you change an impeller on a 5.0 MPI/Bravo III while the boat is in the water? I'm wondering if there is an residual pressure from the drive that would allow water to flow into the bilge.

As long as you can raise the hose from the drive above the waterline of the boat after you remove it or bring something to plug it up with you should be ok. In most all boats water will flow from that hose until you raise it or plug it off.

Ok, that's about what I thought. I think that will be difficult in my boat as the engine sits really low and with the pump being towards the bottom of the engine it is surely below the water line.

Yep, and getting that ULTRA STIFF hose off is usually the hardest part. But it can be done. I changed my impeller after a failure while being towed through a lock on the Illinois River. I just wedged the hose between the side of the bilge and the motor mount and no water came in (cause it was above the waterline at that point).
