Usually I got to a place and just say 5.0 mercruiser and they give me everything

Trying to get it myself this year and make note of the right stuff for the future. Since I live in the northeast so looking for the correct weight, correct amount, filter size and while I’m asking proper fuel/water separator size. Mine looks just like the oil filter

25/40 Merc or Quicksilver oil 5 qts
Oil filter do you have the standard one or the remote mount? That might matter
Fuel filter just the standard filter for the Merc fuel filter mount

Hello sir, thank you for the reply. I’m gonna say standard because it’s tucked under the engine close to the oil pan.

Then any filter for a small block Chevy will fit. They make a long and a short filter , either will work . Wix51061 or exquivalent

Yep Wix is good, you could also use an AC Delco or Purolator. BTW check your access on this job it can be tough to get at. A cap style wrench makes the job easier if it fits right…

Ayuh,..... Napa 1061 is the short oil filter,.....
Dump in 4 qts, start it, check for leaks, then top off to the full line on the dip stick,.....

Napa 3225 for the fuel filter, or 3226 is slightly shorter,....

Dont over think it - no issue with quicksilver. I think the last time I looked for one the long filter was like 2x an aftermarket one.

Quicksilver is the same parts as Mercury/Mercruiser, but labeled quicksilver so they can sell outside their dealer network.. so OEM quality part

Asking me not to overthink is like asking me not to breath
Thanks for the replys, going to go with the wix filter anyway since its a little cheaper and 2 of you said it was a good one.

Change it annually with a good quality oil and filter and you will be ok, engine will outlive the boat. Check the oil level before use and it will outlive the boat. Winterize it properly by draining and it will outlive the boat... you get the idea...

You didn't say what year the engine is im assuming it is roller cam not a flat tappet that needs oil with ZDDP/Zinc like rotella T4

Wix actually has 2 lines of filters for the same applications, the higher line product seems made for syn oils, but check their website.
If you have a flat tappet cam...
I have done oil analyses with a few different oils, and what I found so far, was that of these:
Delo 400 straight 40 (old formula, not current product)
Merc/Quicksilver 25/40 conventional
Merc/Quicksilver 25/50 syn blend
The Delo had 1700 ppm of zinc but that's has not been true for years, that's from the first oil analysis I did in 2011, the current product is much lower.
the conventional Merc has about 960 ppm
the Syn Blend Merc 25/50 has 1240 ppm
Another option, which is perhaps a good one, is the Valvoline VR-1 20/50, this has a lot of zinc, I don't recall the exact # but probably even more than the Merc syn blend 25/50. And it is a good bit cheaper too.
Having said that, I have used Valvoline Max Life syn blend 10/30 or 5/30 in my '98 Jeep which has flat tappets too (4.0 liter AMC/Jeep/Chrysler six) and no problems with them even at 181,000 miles. So maybe it is a moot point.

I can say for sure that in the past i have always used or should say, they have always given me quicksilver oil, non synthetic so keeping in line with that.

My current oil filter is orange with black on the bottom, pretty sure its a fram which i heard bad things about lately, but its what they gave me so im glad to be using someting different this time around and lastly, my fuel filter is a tahatsu no idea how i ended up with that but its going to be replaced with the quicksilver.

When searching for the wix filter i kept getting 51061R, did some reaserch the "R" is for racing and based on the difference between the filters, micro ratings or some garbage i decided best to avoid the racing version.

This wicks oil filter I was told to get is about a half inch longer than the one I’m taking off, is that going to be a problem?

I wouldn’t consider it a long oil filter. I’ve seen long oil filters. This one is like I said, a half an inch or so longer than the Fram oil filter I took off.

Would not think so unless you have a very odd situation with stringers
