496 Mag With auto belt tension -help needed

I have a 496 mag with auto belt tension. (The alternator is fixed with no adjuster at the bottom). How do you remove the belt. Or which pulley is loaded under tension? Somewhere along the way someone broke the bottom bolt off the alternator, rather than drilling out the broken bolt in the boat I want to take the alternator bracket out and drill out of the bench.

V belt (most use the alt as the tensioner) or serpentine (uses an adjustable idler pully)

Do you have a serial number for your engine, there have been several different methods of adjustment.

Yes, 1A338275. Also, from your information, how tricky is it to remove the entire bracket assembly for the alternator. From the picks I have it does not seem like it would be terrible. I'd much rather spend the time taking the bracket off and drilling on the bench as opposed to working at a bad angle. Thanks. Mike
