40 hp johnson 1976 carb.

how do u adjust high speed needle on carb is there a special tool once you take out screw

There is no high speed needle on a 1976 40hp. There is a non-adjustable fixed jet (orifice plug) behind the slotted hex screw in the bottom of the carburetor. Yes. it requires a special screwdriver to get it out. You probably will bugger it up if you try removing it with makeshift tools. You can buy the tool from an Evinrude dealer.

ok thanks i quess it must need something else i thought it was high speed . i cant go full steam ahead theres no hessateing it just wont open up my top speed is 12mpr gps. dont now the rpm tryed new plugs sea foam use full tank of gas now no change has good compression 118 in both cyl. good spark . carb was taken off and cleaned may be needs tune up or new carb kit . could bad water pump be part of promblem seems to come out all right from muffler port it dont shoot staight out . comes out thick and flows over muffler port
