this e40elcud engine quit on the lake and wouldn't restart. after towing in, I found the plugs were wet. a day later and a new set of plugs and about two 30 second sessions on the starter and it fired. it has a rough idle, but pulls fine from 1/4 throttle on. the next day it took two more 30 second sessions on the starter to get going with choke until it fired then no choke and full idle trim. idle is still rough, but better even after 10 minutes warmed up under load. any ideas for a better idle and less wear on the starter??? needle and seat? ignition glitch?? (fuel is two weeks old)

Check for spark on all cylinders. Compression check would be in order. When were the carbs last rebuilt? If the plugs are wet that would indicate weak or no spark. Defective kill switch or ignition switch or perhaps a bad power pack? Cranking for 30 seconds at a time is a good way to burn up a starter. If the engine doesn't start in just a few seconds you have an issue. Continuing to grind away will only result in more expense and the original problem won't go away.

had the carbs off and took the bowls off. very clean, but I didn't have any tools along to dig deeper. what is the power pack you speak of? cdi box on side of power head? once running, stopping and starting again is no problem, cold starts are the main issue. compression is good. can I ohm the coils with specs available somewhere?

Did you ever find out what caused this? Thanks
