40 el lower unit interchange ?

Hi All ,

Just picked up a pontoon project that came w/ a 40 el motor . It was a runner until they had lower unit issues . The PO 's "Boy's " took it apart and well..You know the rest . It did fire up so maybe it's worth investing .

Anyways , after I figger out what year it is , is there a range that might interchange with it ?

40el 6e9 421379 .

Just trying to figger out what generations (years /horsepower) would work . Is a Yamaha the same ?
