i'll agree that a degree doesn't guarantee anything, but i also find those that didn't attend college are usually the ones that point out how useless it is. about every stat you look up states a college degree usually gets you a better job and more pay. yeah, i know you can pull up some pretty impressive people that didn't attend, but it's a small percentage. doctors, lawyers, corporate and govt leaders... most attended college and wouldn't be where they are without it.<br /><br />i also takle exception to the liberal arts bashing, and that's coming from an engineering major at one of the most respected engineering schools in the country. in the military, it doesn't matter what you majored in, you're simply put in a position of leadership. on my first ship, i showed up and was made the deck division officer. a girl who was a history major was made the propulsion officer. it wasn't so much her degree, but rather the experience and maturity gained in college. we eventually switched roles (what they do with JOs), but i can't say i did any better than her simply because i was an engineering major.
