I am having a problem with my oil sender on my 4.3l mercruiser with thunderbolt ignition. I am having a continuous alarm, so I check all of the sensors. I pulled the wires from each one and finally on the oil sender the alarm went off. I replaced it with a sierra 18-5899. The sensor is much bigger than the original that I removed but told it would work. After hooking it back up I am still getting an alarm. Any ideas?

Re: 4.3l oil sensor

There are oil pressure senders for gauges, and oil pressure switches for alarms and a different one for electric fuel pump control.

That 18-5899 is a gauge sender, not an alarm switch.

What's the serial number of your engine? 4.3 Thunderbolt ignition covers over 25 years worth of 4.3's and are not all the same.

Does anyone know the part number to the oil pressure switch?
