4.3 distributor timing question

Hello,
Im trying to drop a distributor in a 1998 ebbtide with a 4.3
I have the engine on top dead center but cant figure out where the rotor button should be pointed.All of the literature I can find says #1 cylinder is driver side front and the rotor should be pointed towards the front of the engine at about 5 oclock.But if I point the rotor there it is about 180 out according to the cap and the plug wire looms.Can someone send me a pic or tell me what position the rotor points to,front or back of the engine.

take your plugs out. turn engine untill air comes out of what ever hole you have your finger in. point roter to that wire.

Thanks for the reminder kyle,i just pointed it at number 1 and rewired it.Its been quite a while since i tried to clean up someones distributor mess.Really do appreciate the help,Junior
