Gear in top picture looks bad to me, where the dog has been jumping over.

hi I dont know what you think of this but you should be able to flip the gears put the fw gear on the other side of the shaft and the reverse gear where the fw gear was and flip the clutch so it will be on the healthy side for foward you dont rev to high in reverse so it should be ok if the gears are reversable just a thought

Look good to me, but then what do I know! Turn the dog around & see how it runs.

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to offer some insight that I couldn't find online. That may help someone else. I was having the same problem and it got progressively worse, like it was the clutch dog. I opened the access cover to disconnect the shift linkage (previously pictured in this thread) for repairs. I found that the coupler you disconnect to drop the lower unit was loose. I readjusted and tightened it, now it's shifting and holding in gear better than it has since I've owned it. Save yourself some hassle and check this first.

Welcome aboard.

Yes, this is an old thread and it should stay in bed. Read the Help Tip on top of the page. Starting a new thread is how we like this to be handled.
