Hi Gents,

I'm up in the BC interior fishing with my buddy on his boat. He's got a 35 HP Merc 2 Cycle with electric start, but he claims it came (used to him ages ago) with Electric Start but no Alternator for charging the battery. So we are charging the batteries at night on day 2.

It's serial number is 0C145285 and it's parts list seems accurate but I don't see an alternator, so maybe the story he was given is true, but I just find it very hard to believe.

Am I crazy or is this true?

Thanks for the assist.

Looking at the Parts list for that Serial #, there is a Charging Stator and a Retifier. Whether or not it is an User/Dealer installed Accessory, I don't know

@jimmbo Thanks for noticing the Charging Stator, I didn't see that in the parts list. I did notice the rectifier and realized that should be in the charging circuit if there is one.

Is there any way to tell what is installed on this engine from the serial number? I'm still looking for the model number and can't yet find one. Any ideas there?

Go to the Mercury Marine parts catalog

https://www.mercurymarine.com/en/us...0WQYnRdOVfmu02gJDFF3ONGayJbxAydhoCahcQAvD_BwE

and enter the serial number into the search box. It will take you to where you have a choice between a USA model and a Belgian model. On the far right side it will give you the model identity.

Select the USA version and it will take you to the parts catalog for your motor. You can then view the page showing you the flywheel (induces voltage in the charging stator) and the stator itself, and then the page that depicts the rectifier.

Thanks @boscoe99 . The parts pages certainly indicate this should be capable of charging:

Now I have the
Model 1035312GD
Serial# 0C145285

A Site I looked at said: A "0" in front of the serial number is not significant, it's a placeholder only for Mercury's software.

The Lund 16 Rebel SS has Hull number LUNH1131H798.

LUN = Lund Boat Division (Out of Business)
H1131 = Boat Serial Number
H7 = Manufactured August 1997
98 = Model year 1998

I will assume that's the same for the Merc.

If anyone knows how to find this out please advise. I guess I should also look for a Mercury Owners & Service Manual for it.

Thanks for all the help to date gents.

Hi Guys,

I'm back at Paul Lake (with the Misses this time) but still looking for the Mercury Owners & Service Manual for my Buddy. This 35 HP seems to be only made for a short time and a free Service Manual (part # 90-42794--1 / 690) is hard to find.
