35 Hp into a 25 HP

I have a 1982 35 Hp 20" shaft Johnson, but need a 15" shaft. I can get a complete 2001 25 Hp 15" Johnson with a blown power head.

Will my 1982 35 Hp fit into the 2001 25 Hp body without having to mod it?

Is it possible to mount the motor higher with a jack plate or transom lifter?

Tom,
Try looking at the parts diagrams on crowleymarine.com or shop.evinrued.com and see if the powerhead base gaskets look the same. I'm worried they won't, and that the drive shaft won't fit into your powerhead as well.
Your best bet would be finding a junk motor closer to your year, I'm thinking.

Tom,
I have to ask.......
How in the heck is that narrow boat stable with:
1.) a 25hp outboard on it
2.) you sitting up so high

You don't have any problems with the transom corners getting stress cracks in them?

Anyway, it's an interesting looking rig for sure! That tilt and trim is really slick.

Gheenoes are great boots, This is a 15-6 (Classic) http://gheenoe.net its rated for a 25 and its very stable. The 16 is rated for a 40 http://gheenoe.net/sixteenft.html

A 25 mounted on a surfboard. Love it.
Looking at it I would have thought you were crazy but that boat handled it great.
I've seen butts at Wal Mart as wide as your boat.

After I took a closer look, and check part number, the powerhead base gaskets are close, but not the same.

The drawing is a little differant, but the Part number is the same.
