Some food for thought.
I added a starter to my 02 Johnson 40. My starter bolted right into the the block but some motors will need a bracket.
I didn’t have a charging system or deep pockets so I just found a spot for the solenoid and called it a day. I use a solar panel to keep the battery topped off and once a season I will charge on the charger and that’s all I have ever needed. You could likely add a charging system but it get expensive. You can go to any parts site even here on IBoats enter your model number and look at the diagram for your motor and see what’s available.
Hope that helps.
Quick and dirty way, you need a starter with a solenoid, a bracket and a push button starter switch. The flywheel needs the teeth, but I don't think they came without on the 20-35's.
What year is your motor?
I have a starter and bracket from an 1985 30hp. Not sure if the starter works.
it just a parts motor that I have had laying around. If your interested I could send it your way and you can just send me the postage.
It's a 85 I in would really appreciate it. I have the starter just need a bracket
