Re: #3 cylinder, good spark - no fire

Okay guys, I got the boat back in perfect running condition. I would still be scratching my head without the outstanding advice, and the wealth of knowledge from this site. I am so very thankful for all the interest in my problem, and the willingness to help a complete stranger. You don't find that kind of thing just anywhere.

The root of all my problems were 2 broken reed pedals, and a few that were bent. The gaskets didn't make it through the tear down, and those little bastards where hard to find locally. I chose to go ahead and replace all of the reeds, but I used an upgraded composite set of reeds from Chris Carson Marine in south Florida. As pnwboat stated above the factory parts ONLY come with the reed block assy. The vender I used sells just the reeds, and enough for the whole motor for only $80.00!

Thanks you to everyone that help me!

Glad everything worked out for you. I've seen a lot of the later 1996 and later 120HP motors that have the squared off reed petals that are either bent or broken. Never seen that on the earlier 4 cylinder motors that use the rounded off reed petals.

I just put a set of the CCM reeds in my motor last weekend. It sure fires up faster and idles a lot better. Not quite warm enough for a lake test yet though. Maybe tomorrow or next weekend.

Knowing is half the battle!!
The joy ride went great, for the fist half of the trip. I have a brand new 1000 amp marine battery, and the boat started getting really hard to start. The volt gauge reads 13 and only dropped down to 10 while I crank it. The dam thing also started stalling when I come off the throttle, and the primer bulb lost pressure. So the sage continues! Looks like I need to rebuild the fuel pump, and the starter. Any objections?

Sounds like a fuel pump diaphragm.

I've always recommended a $5 clear fuel filter between the fuel pump outlet and the carb inlet. This is one of the best mod you can do for your motor for troubleshooting. When the motor bogs down or stalls, first thing to check is the clear fuel filter. If it is empty it means you have a fuel related problem and is most likely upstream of the filter. If the filter is full or at least 3/4 full, it means your fuel related problem is with the carb system. In your case, since the primer bulb loses pressure, I believe you mean to say it is collapsing, it would indicate you either have a clogged pick up tube or you have a clogged tank vent. Next time you ran loosen up the tank cap and before launching or leaving the garage, blow back on the pick up tube by disconnecting it from the primer bulb inlet side. Post back your results.
