Fully loaded 19.5 century mustang and towing 3 kids on a massive tube the boat came right out of the water like it was empty. I know these are the most hated engine in the marine world but I have done everything needed to keep her chugging for awhile. Great engine in my opinion. Hoping if I keep her cool it will last me a long time

That's called torque... from that large 4.36 bore. There's no replacement for displacement. lol

If you maintain it, it can last

They are a nifty engine. The 4.3L was cheaper and proved more reliable so any advancements were halted until it was finally discontinued in 1990... If Mercruiser kept tweaking it, they could have perfected it, but instead they forgot it

The motor needed a closed deck, alloy head, roller cam, adjustable valve train, and a real damper. Because of the large bore, a balance shaft would help
