3.0 Merc Flapper Gone

While I was in the process of checking/replacing the exhaust manifold/riser, I noticed there was no sign of the flapper nor it's components. I've read through virtually every thread on here regarding flapper issues. The boat seemed fine prior to taking the exhaust apart to fix a small leak, should I take the outdrive off to further inspect and see if the parts of the flapper are still in the exhaust system??

Yes.

You should be removing your drive annually for inspection, anyway. $3 in gaskets and an hour each year save quite a bit of time down the road.

Are we sure that the 3.0L even has this flapper?

Pretty sure, it has two square holes at the top of the exhaust portion that connects to the out-drive and when I look at OEM diagrams it shows one listed as a "shutter".
