3.0 engine removal

Any tips or tricks for 3.0 engine removal would be greatly appreciated

Pull outdrive, disconnect fuel, wiring , cables, etc.

Undo motor mount fasteners

Lift out motor

And yes, drive must come off first

Move throttle full forward before removing drive

Measure the height of your lifting set up. Most standard hoists wont get high enough to clear.

I’m spoiled in that with an overhead hoist, I can pull a 3.0L in about 15 minutes. Front bolts, rear bolts. Shift and throttle cables. Plus fuel, water intake and the wiring. That’ll get it ready to yank… outdrive is first always. You can’t pull the engine forward enough to free it from the driveshaft, even if it seems possible, it really only is with a sawsall if your scrapping the boat

When I pulled the 3 liter out of my Avanti. I pulled the trailer tires, and put down two 2x4's on the floor to run the trailer hubs on the 2x4's vs the painted concrete. i used a standard height engine hoist. I did have to raise the bow about another foot to get the motor over the transom
