28' Winner flybridge

I just got a 28' winner flybridge in great shape has twin 351windsors w/v-drives been sitting in boat yard since 06 Im considering a full restoration on the boat. either repairing engines or replacing. Ive been under the hatches of boats most of my life and am pretty adept to working on them. I cant seem to find any info on this boat anywhere. any info on the boat would be appreciated. I was told the boat was desighned by Ray Hunt. Is there any truth to this? I want to take this boat offshore so I am considering diesel conversion possibly yanmars any thoughts on this would be appreciated as well.

Welcome to iboats.

Repairing the current engines is FAR FAR less money then a diesel conversion.

What kind of V-drives are they? If they're Paragons, one thing I had to learn, painfully, is that there are almost no parts available for them. You'll see gaskets and clutch packs for sale on the Internet but that's all. If you need any gears or shafts you're SOL. I'm in the process of changing mine over to a Velvet Drive because of this.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, and hopefully your trannys are OK, but I thought I'd let you know what my recent experience has been with Paragons.

there borg warner v drives with 71c velvet drive trasmissions all working fine got the starboard engine running port needs a little more work

Do you have any pictures of your project? I have a 1976 28 family flybridge that I have been upgrading. I got a good deal on a pair of 350 chevy engines so I went that direction. I have velvet v-drives as well. I have collected a couple sales brochers and some company info on the winner corp but also find it difficult to get tech info about the boat. I have lots of pictures to share.. boat is not complete at this time.

Good decision converting to diesel Yanmar are the best choice. I think that you have a walter v-drives with the short extension shaft. Long time ago I had a 1973 winner 28 with twin LM-318B Chrysler Marine Engine @240HP with velvet drives transmision and Walter v-drives. That is a good boat for saltwater heavy and solid I like a lot. Another think that boat run very fast.

Ya hoo I just bought an old 1973 Winner Flybridge ,It has some old 318's with velvet drives ,what a monster.
The boat was free Just had to buy the trailer but it is in awsome shape and just needs a buff and an interior update and it will be good to go.

Just got a 28 winner, I have never seen a v bottom like this one. It has two flat spots off the v, I am assuming it is for extra lift. Can anyone tell me how this boat rides in rough water. I am also considering a power upgrade and was wondering how this hull would handle more speed. I have heard this hull is quick to plane and good on fuel, i am just wondering if it pounds because of the flat sections of the hull.
