25hp Johnson lower unit problems

I have a 25hp Johnson and cannot get the lower unit off. Loosened the four bolts and the one in the middle on the back. What else is there?

Depending on the year, there should be a little oval shaped cover about halfway up the leg and thats where the shifter disconnect is, or if it is a later model the disconnect will be behind the water intake grates on the lower itself. I think that's probably what is holding you up.

The model number is j25teets and just working n getting the impeller off

Your motor comes up as a 1993. You have a shift rod coupler in the pick up screen on the lower unit. Remove the pick up screen and you'll see it. There should be 6 bolts holding the lower unit on.

Doing the impeller in my 1996 new to me johnson for the first time. Done impellers before. How does this shift rod coupler work. Any tips? Leave it in neutral or put it into gear???
