I currently have a 1988 Evinrude 25hp motor, but its long shaft. I have a guy that is willing to trade a 1983 25hp motor, short shaft (which is what I need). I was just going to check and make sure there wouldnt be a big power loss. Was it 1983 when Johnson / Evinrude started rating their motors at the prop? If that is the case, then they should be close enough for me, but if the 83 was still rated at the powerhead and the 88 at the prop I was going to expect a power loss.

Either way will there be a noticeable power loss? Even if one is rated at the prop vs the powerhead?

thanks

i seriously doubt you will notice must difference. alternative, is to build a transom elevator or mini jackplate for your existing 88 25hp. these are easy enough and inexpensive projects to solve a major problem.

this one has a simple jack plate, i would just run the piece attached to the transom longer
