Always on top of good suggestions Scott I'll have to find this part though. Is this in the outdrive itself?

Final update. Made it out of this season with no issues boat starts everytime and ran like a charm.

I did change the lower unit gear oil just as precautionary about half way point because we were going to go on about a 8 hour cruise and it smelled like rotten eggs so good thing I did other then that she runs like a champ. All in all great purchase. Many memories will be made. Or I'll sell it and get something bigger next year lol

I don't think I had ever smelled something this pungent though... it Def. Didn't smell new and it was darker then sin.

Some of the Mercury Oils don't stink quite as much. I know the OMC/BRP Oils, can be smelled a Block or Two away, very irritating stench

I took volvo oil out put sierra oil in.

Was it Synthetic GL-5? That is what Volvo requires in SX Drives, NO substitutes

It was indeed the correct substitute I've always used the Sierra brand gear lube oils without fail.

failure to use synthetic GL-5 in a volvo drive is bad

if the gear oil smelled bad, then my guess your cone clutches are slipping
