Well folks, we brought the $250 backyard find home yesterday, and in the garage it went. And all I can tell you folks at this point, is that my curiosity for this find has grown dramatically!! I have not set foot in this vessel yet, but started examining what I could get my eyes on, (at this point and time) so the next step, is to heat up the garage, and run a hose from the hull plug (drain plug hole) to the floor drain, and let r thaw out. The seller did clean the vessel out a little bit so that did help.

Thaw her out and clean out the junk from the hull. Now check the hull and deck for rot. I would be real surprised if any of the wood supporting the fiberglass is sound.

the rotten mulch water running down the transom and staining it indicates that the transom is rotten

The prop on this motor seems odd.----Possibly a low pitch to match a bigger heavier load.----Does the opening windshield " fit nicely " when you close it ?

get the $7.50 copy....could be a good investment. fixing the transom is a good project. if you open up the transom there are liquid products you can pour and lots of utubes to learn from. notice the extra mounting holes....???

try to keep a detailled log of hours, and expenses. It would be a good guide for others to make decisionson such projects. first thing is to check is the engine ....seized ?, turns ?, compression etc... gear oil watery ? , cracks etc.... If you get it going... I would empty the tank and run on a portable one with clean fuel till you know the condition of the boat's tank.

lots of stuff to check...but you knew that :)

The electric shift function can be checked with motor not running.----We can not hear or feel the motor.----We do not know your workshop or level of ambition.-----Check it all out and if promising you could work on this and get great satisfaction.----There is no issue finding parts for the motor ( 1967 ? ) if you learn where to look.----The carburetor high speed jet is listed as available for this 1967 motor.----Just helped someone out with carburetor jets for a 1998 motor as those are listed as not available !

I used a product called SeaCast to rebuild a transom once. Its a great product.
My transom was so rotten I didn’t even have to cut the glass on the inside or out. I was able to dig out all the rot it was so far gone. It is very important to get ever last chunk of wood out if you go this route.

Trax, this might be a long process, but i looked the boat more in depth when i got home from work, and it is rough in some spots but, stiil to frozen to tell if it is worth saving the boat itself. If not....well there alot of things and parts i can use on my boat so..just have wait it out (the thawing process)

The good news is that the motor is a design that was made for many, many years. It looks to be a longshaft (20") that works on many boats. A carb kit and some new ign coils and points could fix it up.

Of course, it looks like your boat is a short shaft (15"). However it is hard to tell.

It is easy to tell that the motor is a 20" as it has a different colour 5" outer / lower cowling.----Picture #5 I think.

Whoever removed the Merc that was on there before the Evinrude, didn't do a very good job of Sealing the old Bolt Holes.
That Evinrude is a 1966, at least the Cowl is
That Prop is the 11 X 9 part# 376738. It was a for use on Tugs/Barges. @5000 rpm it might get a boat up to 20mph, anything faster, was over revving

So it is a long shaft then? the only reason i ask is that it looks to be the same lenth as my 68 big twin on my other boat..

On my other Starcraft Nova with the Big twin 40 hp, i had to dig out all the rotten wood and replaced the whole transum, gosh that was a job let me tell ya, but in the end it came out strong and done right
