25 hp Mercury question

Is there anything I can do ,like installing a carb from 30 or 40 hp motor, or something else to get better performance out of my 1997 25 hp Mercury outboard.

Welcome to iboats. :)

I wouldn't mess with the engine other than procedures explained in your Service Manual.

There are probably plenty of opportunities to refine your boat. Optimize the prop and outboard vertical positioning, add power trim if you don't already have it. Maybe add a setback plate.

The typical boat can gain more performance by fine tuning the rigging than hopping up the outboard into a firecracker with a short fuse.

Thanks Ancient Mariner I ordered a tilt &trim set back plate I will see what happens. Thanks again for taking the time to help me.

Randy you don't mention what size boat and material of boat. Aluminum, fiberglass?
