25 hp johnson 2000 water pump

I just purchased a 2000 25 hp johnson model # J25RSSE from just add water boat sales in indy,in and we took it out and I noticed it was not peeing, the sales guy says it has not warmed up yet it will ???????????well after about 3-5 min I ideled it down and sure enough it started peeing but when I put it back in gear and took off again it stopped......so my question to anyone is this normal. I have never owened any motor this new before and my last motor was a merc 350 from like 1860 and it peed all the time, even the big boats pee all the time that I have seen. please help I'm very concerned about this issue.

Not normal. Like you said, there should be water coming out at all times while running. Run some weed eater string or small wire into the outlet, hopefully it's just clogged. If not your water pump will need servicing.

When was the last time the previous owner even checked or replaced the impeller? If that is unknown, it likely needs to be replaced anyway.
