Sorry for the multiple posts and questions but I will sum it up here. Got 11 brackets made for the starboard side and recruited my cousin to help riveting some time next week. Still need to make port side. I have a good amount of bending in the hull by the end of the ribs and some stress factors. I would like to add some 2”x4” patches under the end of the ribs on the outside of the hull but can’t get a super flush fit due to the bending.
1. How can I add support with the extreme bending. Notice the gap in the picture.

2. I am not planning on repainting the hull so would like to not remove the paint. I will remove paint from the bottom but do not want to remove paint from the sides if possible. Can I rivet the supports with paint.

Lol dont quote me, Im going off what I remember these guys doing. I believe they form the aluminum with a hammer to the hull. Put 5200 between the patch and the hull. Bigger patch is better. Not sure how many rivets but Id guess 6 a patch minimum on a smaller patch.

Will see how good my memory is when the pros return haha. Keep burning that midnight oil with the blue mountains!!

Well decided to do a combo of what Cat and Grandad did. Found a panel of aluminum off a semi trailer That is just a hair shy of the same thickness as the hull, so that helps. I’m going to run a 5” strip under the ribs but inside the hull then another strip on the outside of the hull to make a sandwich. The add the supports I made the other day. Task of today, drill out 100+ rivets and cut/shape supports. Then get some beverages to entice my cousin to come buck some rivets.

@benfish909 didn't waste any time going where very few have gone! 🤪

It sounds like you have a solid plan...and you've recruited a rivet partner (i.e. the Admiral) that you don't have to apologize to for weeks/months afterwards! 🤣

Thanks. I will post pictures this evening. I tried to convince the admiral and she said there was no way.

So the one side is done except we need to rivet th support to the side wall. Turned out pretty good but we had a huge issue with the 5200. I’m embarrassed to even post pictures. We put 5200 on the wrong side of the panel and slid it into place only to realize we had to pull it back out and start over. So the 5200 got everywhere but it should be strong. Also pulled the SW to make repares and clean up the transom. Be gentle on the gross amount of 5200 on everything 4A5F235D-90B8-462E-8EC0-7810AC2872A7.jpegCA7B6E03-323B-41D6-8E9D-ECEACF0E80C0.jpeg93DA2366-3970-4456-BF44-7B5FC1EDE132.jpeg

those braces look super stout! Great job!

Denatured alcohol will zap 5200 ...just keep it away from areas you're trying to seal. Acetone is better for cleaning up near sealing points.

Got the 11 brackets made for the port side and one coat of epoxy on the transom. Not going to sandwich the hull like I did on the starboard side bc port side shows no cracks or bending. Getting ahead of myself but saw a picture of a ladder that I want. I can’t afford this one so going to see if I can find someone to make it locally A9AAB15A-3BA7-4A31-999B-92E6A7E09D3B.jpeg5027A462-F4C6-4C0A-8D38-5B97D5A76E33.png

Well today I found a good bit of corrosion while doing some cleaning on the hull. Under the knee brace was a big dent and pitting. So I cleaned it up and going to add 2 1/8 plates (I don’t have one plate big enough and this I can shape better. I added one then ran out of 5200. I was much cleaner this time. I hope this will help the problem. The couple bolts were temporary, clecos couldn’t apply enough pressure. Yes the transom skin has a lot of putting, the POS I mean one of the PO used treated lumber. The out side of the transom is getting a 1/4 plate 15644782-8C54-43D7-9880-DB4C4252C699.jpeg66AA3AB4-E6C9-460F-8EFA-973C56A60866.jpeg1895CAF2-2020-4F61-90F0-8CD41CF4ADB2.jpeg

I like the battleship mentality. She will be ready for WWIII!! Crazy how much pitting that has there. Need to pull out my knee brace and see if theres any gremlins under mine.

Thanks. I just keep telling myself do it right one time so I don’t have to do it again

You are moving right along!!!!

So one thing I will comment on with your knee brace, as you have added that patch all of your through hull bolts wont align anymore as you have elevated them by a 1/8 of an inch. Don't know if you planned on reinforcing the knee brace and redrilling the wings, but that will need to be accounted for.

Also, while you have the knee brace out, I suggest looking at moving the drain hole lower. I don't understand why they installed it so high...

I guess I will run the 1/4” plate on the outside all the way down to cover those holes bc I didn’t even think about those holes not lining up.

I was wondering if I should move the plug sine it’s all open. Is it bad to have it in the knee brace, I’m just thinking about clogs

It happens, so just remember when reinstalling the knee brace to plan for the extra length needed with the rivets. Also suggest looking at adding an extra plate on the exterior. It was suggested to me by @Watermann during my rebuild and I am glad I did it.

As for the drain plug, I moved mine as you can see. I haven't had any issue with plugging or debris. That being said, I am also pretty careful on what I let get down into the bilge. Not because I am worried about a plug, but I spent so much time/effort that I hate letting her get to dirty. lol

Didn’t get a ton done but got caught up on riveting. Knee brace is done and port side just needs another 44 rivets. Had to cut off the tabs on the knee brace due to corrosion and cracks. Replace the tabs with angle AL. Still need to rivets the angle AL to the knee brace but my pop gun wouldn’t fit so need to get a different style gun. Again the 5200 got the best of me and then dirt from other projects got stuck to it so it needs a good wipe down with acetone. 26975E3C-084E-4310-9118-63831854C449.jpeg084B2AE4-25E3-4579-8A23-F0EEBCEBAA76.jpegA851E5D5-D3D7-49D2-8531-EDC30B063BF2.jpeg039823F9-E7D9-4479-852A-CF05CF1773AC.jpeg

Looking good. Like the side braces you made..
You can use a rag soaked in mineral spirts and clean up
all the 5200 while its still wet. Works great and the mineral sprits
doesn't evaporate as fast as acetone..

5200 gets everywhere.... No matter how careful I was or the number of gloves I swapped with, I always found 5200 somewhere I didn't want it. lol

As for the pop rivets, where are you using them on your knee brace? I would be hesitant if you are trying to use them in a structural application, but maybe that is just me....
