Calling all iboats members- Nominations have closed and it is time to vote for the 2022 Splash of the Year winner! [Nomination thread here.]

It's great to have 1 worthy build in the running. If you haven't already read through the project, follow the link below to the build.
Good luck to the nominee!
Yes, I know there is only one nominee, but he deserves the full treatment, so please cast you vote.

Applicable Rules:
After Dec 1, 2022, a new voting thread will be created that will show all nominees and a link to their rebuild thread for your review. As in past years, I expect that 1 or 2 pictures of each entry will be included in the voting thread, usually a before and after shot. You will be permitted one vote for your favorite boat that was splashed in either forum in 2021. Voting will end at midnight EST January 11, 2023.

Congratulations @88 Capri…..I mean to say, my vote is for @88 Capri. Great build and it appears an easy win for SOTY. I really enjoyed the thread as it brought back a lot of my memories for my first restoration, my ‘86 Capri. Nice work dude!!

Thank you, it was definitely an experience I don't regret albeit I wish I knew then what I know now lol.
I must admit that after seeing the boat @sphelps just bought it does make me think about doing another one someday just not fiberglass. Have to finish this first and go from there but something tells me my wife would have different feelings about another project 🙃

I has occurred to me that this past year many of 'us' were out buying new(er) boats and not restoring the old ones.
They went from free and restoration cost. To buying the free junk boat for the cost of the old restoration cost. And the restoration materials cost at least tripled. Of course it is cheaper just to get a working boat now.

Also I really think the “fix’er up spirit” seems to be waning. Instant gratification seems to rule the day recently.

I look at it this way.

Personally, I will never buy a new boat as I dont have enough scheckles in the coin purse.

I will never buy a new vehicle for myself as I want a manual transmission, LSD, rear wheel drive, and a tight turning radius and I dont want electronics/touch screens/etc.

currently looking at a 1948 wooden boat........

I think we're just getting old. Almost gone is the generation of dragging a 69 Camaro home to work on for a few years.

The new generations barely want a car at all when getting a license. And to them, a toolbox is an app that cleans the registry on their phone or laptop.

I’m the same. I won’t make payments on a toy, which means I gotta put in the elbow grease. I’ve never had to pay someone else to work on a toy. If I can’t work on it myself, I don’t need it. The boat restore, (always still in progress), was one of my favorite projects to date. The satisfaction of completing a project like this is something most folks will never experience.
