2020 Nascar - Talladega - 2021 Schedule Released

Cup, X-Men and Trucks continue the playoffs at Talladega. For Cup this is the middle race and this round finishes on the Charlotte Roval, two tough tracks for the 4 drivers below the advancement cutoff.

Race weekend is forecast to be dry and sunny with 70 degree days both Saturday and Sunday. MRN's schedule;

• 2021 Cup Schedule Highlights
  • Spring Bristol race will be on dirt, 6 Road Races
  • Nashville, Road America and Austin COTA are new venues, RA and COTA are road courses.
  • Atlanta and Darlington are back to 2 races
  • Chicagoland and Kentucky are off the schedule
  • Indy race on the road course
  • All-Star race is at Texas.

• Some aero package changes
  • Both Darlington races will switch from the High Down Force to Low Package
  • Nashville will use the Low package.
• Practice and Qualifying
  • Steve O'Donnell says next year NASCAR will have practice and qualifying at any new tracks or configurations and the championship race.
  • This means Harvick or Hamlin will start most races on the pole.
  • Wallace will start in the bottom half of every race as a new team with no owner points.
  • Opinion - COVID is a convenient excuse. The reduced crew size and showing up to race is saving tons of money, but it hurts drivers, especially the younger guys.
  • Opinion continued - This belongs in the Stupid column. As does the Pole "algorithm"
• Kyle Larson is expected to apply for reinstatement.
• Brendon Gaughan is retiring after this race.
• Chad Knaus has been promoted to Hendrick VP of Competition and will assume the duties at the end of the season.
• Matt D is on tenterhooks about staying with Wood Brothers. It doesn't look good.
• TV Ratings - Las Vegas earned a 1.15 rating and 1.97 million viewers (TV only), down from a 1.4 and 2.38 million last year, as NASCAR deals with heavy competition. It only went up against MLB, NBA, NHL and NCAAF. We can't forget it's still 2020.

Yeah and the Daytona Clash before the 500 will be on the infield road course.

The Truck race just started and Creed led the opening 5 laps and Hill was pushed to the lead on lap 6. This is an elimination race with mostly two freight trains lines.

On lap 14, Creed blocks and goes below the yellow line and squirms some . Some Trucks didn't check up in time and 5 or more damaged, some a done for the day. Smith is done and is a playoff driver.

Hill wins the first heat. Creed advances to the next round on points.

Kraus takes the lead on the heat 2 restart. One long inside line and a shorter outside lin way back.

Yellow for Gray cutting off Dean, who spun and totaled the truck. 2 laps before the end of heat 2.

Kraus wins heat 2 under yellow.

Tanner gray spins and whacks the wall after Gilliland lost his motor and stacked up the line. 54 to go.

Two lines and the lead keeps changing. Sauter for now with 33 to go.

Green flag stops underway. Cobb leads for now, has to pit. 33 to go.

Coob finally pits, putting Creed in front. 11 to go.

Creed has a low tire and pits. Friesen takes the lead and 5 to go.

Trevor Bayne wins when Friesen tries to block too many trucks and squirts to win. Trucks were wrecking and burning behind the leaders..

Back up, the win goes to Lessard looking at timing loops because the yellow came out when the trucks started to wreck. So the race finished under yellow when the leaders approached the finish line.

On lap 42 Herbst gets turned for yellow. On the restart, Chastain get bumped a spun, with other cars involved. We're red flagged for clean up. Briscoe is shown as the leader.
