My 20 hp is very sensitive to weed around water pump pickup. Starts shuddering immediatly on contacting kelp. No complaint there but Id like to know how it does this. Theres no time for engine to overheat it seems,so there must be a water flow sensor Im thinking. dealer says no but Im not convinced.

and it seems we have no idea what motor you have since you did not tell us

If you stop water flow a motor heats up quickly

never heard of a water flow sensor before, but have heard of water level in older Zuks.
they might even still have them

Kelp is tough to get through, sure it's not just your prop trying to get through it?

Nope there something that makes the engine rapid miss ie shudder to alert operator to issue. For sure this happens when engine overheats but it also happens ,like today, when I tried to start it cold while in a weed soup. It started but immediately went to shudder mode.no time to overheat.

There is no water flow sensor in that motor.

If the motor is over temping then the warning horn will be sounding.

seems like this would be a lot easier if the people posting about a motor would include the complete make and model info of the motor they are asking about in the original post

Model of the motor is top secret information.

Most would rather post their social security number than their motor model.

Sorry ,I omitted the Yamaha from heading somehow. It's a f20 Yamaha tiller model no alternator or starter.

There is more to it than just F20.

In 2014 Yamaha offered the F20 in 8, yes 8, different flavours.
