I was working on a 200 HP Evinrude today. Its late 80's early 90's two stoke. The entire stbd bank is not getting spark. Since each cylinder has it's own coil I am leaning to a ECM problem. All wires from computer to each coil look good, and since they are three separate wires it would be difficult to believe that all three failed. I can't think of a sensor that would cause this cause the port bank is working fine. If I am missing anything please let me know.

Check the shift interupter switch, it could be killing the spark on those three cyls.

Yep... In agreement with Boobie. Either that or the powerpack, but most likely Bobbie's statement.

It could also be the stator but I'd look at the switch first.

I just want to clarify that you think the shift interupter switch could be causing all three seperat coils on the stbd bank to not get spark. is this correct? Out of all the manuals I have access to I don't have one for a 200HP. Could you tell me where this switch is, and give brief description of what it looks like?

The engine will run, it just runs on three cylinders. After i ran it for a swcond i noticed it was missing. I pulled plugs on port bank and all were hot and black, which is good. The I pulled plugs on the stbd bank all were cold, and had un burnt fuel on them.

It's on the shift arm of the mtr. Find it, follow the wires from it and disconnect the wires and see what happens.

Just to expand a little bit on the shift interrupt switch, it's purpose is to cut out the 3 starboard cylinders momentarily as you shift out of gear. Without that it can be difficult to get out of gear. So yes, if this switch were bad (or stuck) you would certainly have the symptoms you're describing.

Could be under your shifter look under it two yellow wires connect to it

The wires that go to the switch are normally black.

Find where the shift cable connects to the engine's mechanical shift linkage. Follow that linkage to its hinge area on the intake manifold area beneath the carburetors. You will see a weird looking contraption there with two wires attached to it... usually one black wire, one black/yellow wire. That's the shift switch. Disconnect the black/yellow wire to disable that switch.

That was the issue. I unplugged the switch and it started right up. It's running a little rough, but nothing a quick adjustment cant fix. Thanks for your help
