You definitely don't wanna run it too high above the recommended RPM's or you will be doing another rebuild shortly. What are you using to gauge the RPM's? You sure its accurate? Was that the prop you were using before? I would say, if you are sure the RPM's are accurate, you need to raise the pitch on the prop by 2-4 to lower the RPM's. That's only if you are sure that the motor is at the proper depth and not over revving due to being too high on transom or some other issue. .

well no i had a 150 efi on it and bought the 200 efi and rebuilt it is what the prop that was on it when i bought it now i never had teh problem with my prop on the 150 but it has a 24 pitch high five on it but would only turn 5200 rpms and ! yes i have checked the tach with another one and its right ! its on a 1994 ranger 374 i bought new in 94 so its a one owner boat ! maybe i should take the 24 off the 150 and put it on there ! i did not over rev it because when it got to 6000 i backed off back to the 5800 ! this prop was on it when i bought it probably why it bowed up i am thinking ! why i kept it for so many years it still looks like this potp taken last year lol !

do i have this right? you had a 24p on a 150, and now a 21p on a 200?
uhh... 24p high 5 on a 150 WILL make less rpm than a 21p high 5 on a 200...

if you want to stay with the high 5, first try put the 24p that you have on the 200.
HOWEVER, the high 5 is the wrong prop IMHO for a bass boat. You probably want a 3 or 4 blade, not a 5. For 3 blade you want a tempest plus or a fury. tempest for more speed, fury for better holeshot. for a 4 blade you will want a rev4 or a bravo 1.

Just a couple of thoughts from me…
I’d ask why you have a high 5 on there firstly. They are one trick ponies. Only really of any use if it’s used on a boat wanting to pull up a skier or boarder with an underpowered set up. They are very inefficient and next to useless for anything other than that. You aren’t lacking power for sure. They will act like much less pitch for rpms (compared to a 3 blade) at the top end, just because they are that bad for prop slip and efficiency.
I’d have thought you are serious underpitched with any 21” prop…never mind a high 5.
I have a cvx16 with a 150 Merc (likely
Around the same gear ratio). Last time I was out in her, I had a 23” 3 blade on her and still over revved. I’ll be needing a 25” I’d think.
Anyway…point is…high 5 are useless unless you are dabbling in towing people all the time with not much power available…get a good 3 blade and go from there. I’d assume you’d need around a 23” for starters and go from there.

Read post#1 again Sea..its before trimming and a V-6 will blow quicker than a lil 2 cylinder. Mr Russel since you added 50HP and gear ratio should be the same, you need to start with a 3 blade prop in the 23-26 pitch range.
